🔄 Odds Converter, Implied Probability & Bookmaker Margin Calculator

📊 Betting Odds Converter & Bookmaker Margin Calculator

Convert decimal, fractional and American odds, calculate implied probability and analyse the bookmaker margin built into a complete sports betting market.

Sportsbook odds represent both a potential return and an implied probability. Because Ontario sportsbooks may display prices in decimal, American or fractional format, comparing markets can be difficult when the same underlying price is presented differently.

The Canada Sports Insight Odds Converter and Bookmaker Margin Calculator brings these calculations together on one page. The first tool converts an individual betting price and calculates its implied probability. The second analyses all outcomes in a market to estimate the bookmaker overround, no-vig probabilities and fair decimal odds.

Use the correct tool for the calculation

Use the Odds Converter for one sportsbook price. Use the Bookmaker Margin Calculator only when you can enter every possible outcome from the same betting market.

🔄 Betting Odds Converter

Enter one betting price below and select its format, or leave the converter on Auto-detect. The tool will calculate the equivalent decimal, fractional and American odds together with the implied probability represented by that price.

Odds Converter

Enter decimal odds such as 2.50, American odds such as +150 or -120, or fractional odds such as 7/4. Decimal odds may also use a comma, for example 2,50.

Converted Odds

Enter betting odds and select Convert Odds to view equivalent decimal, fractional and American prices.

📈 Bookmaker Margin, Overround & Fair Odds Calculator

Bookmaker margin cannot be calculated from one price alone. Enter the odds for every possible outcome in the same market. For example, a two-way Over/Under market requires both prices, while a football 1X2 market requires Home, Draw and Away.

The calculator converts each price into implied probability, combines the complete market and then estimates the overround. It also proportionally removes that margin to show no-vig probabilities and corresponding fair decimal odds.

Calculate Bookmaker Margin and Fair Odds

Enter every possible outcome from the same market.
For an Over/Under market, enter both prices – for example 1.91 and 1.91. For a football 1X2 market, select 3 Outcomes and enter the Home, Draw and Away odds.

The combined implied probability is below 100%. This creates an underround rather than a normal positive bookmaker margin. Check that every possible market outcome has been entered.
Fair odds and no-vig probabilities are calculated by proportionally normalising the implied probabilities so that they total 100%. They are mathematical estimates, not predictions of the true probability of an outcome and do not guarantee betting value.

📊 How Betting Odds Conversion Works

Decimal, American and fractional odds are different ways of expressing the same underlying sportsbook price. Converting between formats does not change the probability or value represented by the odds - it simply presents the same price in another notation.

🔢 Decimal Odds Show the total potential return for each unit staked, including the original stake.
🇺🇸 American Odds Positive and negative prices express potential profit relative to a standard stake.
➗ Fractional Odds Express potential profit as a ratio between winnings and the amount staked.

For example, decimal odds of 2.50, American odds of +150 and fractional odds of 3/2 all represent the same underlying price and an implied probability of 40%.

🎯 Understanding Implied Probability

Implied probability converts sportsbook odds into a percentage. For decimal odds, the basic calculation is 1 ÷ decimal odds × 100.

Example: Decimal Odds of 2.50

1 ÷ 2.50 × 100 = 40% implied probability. This percentage describes the individual displayed price and does not remove the bookmaker's margin from the complete market.

An individual implied probability should therefore not automatically be treated as the sportsbook's pure estimate of the outcome's true chance. To analyse the pricing margin, all mutually exclusive outcomes in the market must be considered together.

📈 How Bookmaker Margin and Overround Work

In a theoretical margin-free market, the implied probabilities of every possible outcome would add up to exactly 100%. Sportsbook prices normally produce a total above 100%, with the difference commonly described as the bookmaker margin or overround.

Outcome 1 - 1.91 Implied probability: approximately 52.36%.
Outcome 2 - 1.91 Implied probability: approximately 52.36%.
Total Probability Approximately 104.72% across the complete two-outcome market.
Calculated Overround Approximately 4.72 percentage points above a theoretical 100% market.

The calculated 4.72% should not be interpreted as a guarantee that the bookmaker will earn exactly that amount from wagers. It describes the mathematical pricing margin contained in the displayed odds.

⚖️ No-Vig Probabilities and Fair Odds

The margin calculator proportionally normalises all implied probabilities so that the complete market totals 100%. The resulting percentages are shown as no-vig probabilities.

Those probabilities are then converted into estimated fair decimal odds. They illustrate what the market could look like after proportionally removing the calculated overround.

📈 Implied Probability The percentage mathematically represented by the sportsbook's displayed price.
➕ Overround The amount by which the combined implied probabilities exceed 100%.
⚖️ No-Vig Probability The proportional probability after normalising the complete market to 100%.
🎯 Fair Odds The decimal price corresponding to the calculated no-vig probability.
Fair odds are mathematical estimates

The proportional method removes the displayed market margin mathematically. It does not prove that the resulting percentage represents the true probability of an outcome.

🏟️ Markets the Margin Calculator Can Analyse

The calculator supports between two and ten outcomes, making it suitable for several common market structures.

  • Two-outcome markets: Over/Under, Yes/No, some head-to-head markets and similar binary outcomes.
  • Three-outcome markets: football Home/Draw/Away and other mutually exclusive three-way markets.
  • Multi-outcome markets: selected futures, group winners, awards and other markets containing several listed possibilities.

Every possible outcome must be included. Leaving out one valid result can distort the calculation and may produce an apparent underround rather than a meaningful complete-market margin.

🔍 Why Compare Bookmaker Margins?

A lower overround generally means less pricing margin has been built into the complete market. Comparing equivalent markets can therefore help explain why the odds offered by two sportsbooks differ even when they cover the same event.

Margin should not be considered in isolation. Market rules, settlement conditions, available betting options, account security, payment methods, customer support and responsible gambling controls also matter when assessing a sportsbook.

🛡️ Use Betting Odds Tools Responsibly

Odds conversion, implied probability and market-margin calculations can improve understanding of sportsbook pricing, but they cannot predict sporting outcomes or demonstrate that a wager will be profitable.

Do not increase a stake simply because a calculated price, potential return or market comparison looks attractive. Betting should remain within an affordable entertainment budget, and losses should never be chased.

❤️ Better calculations do not remove betting risk

Use these tools to understand the numbers behind a wager. They do not change the probability of the sporting result or eliminate the possibility of losing the complete stake.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What does an odds converter do?

It converts a betting price between decimal, fractional and American formats and calculates the implied probability represented by that price.

What is implied probability?

Implied probability expresses a betting price as a percentage. For decimal odds, it is calculated by dividing one by the decimal price and multiplying by 100.

What is bookmaker margin?

Bookmaker margin, or overround, is the amount by which the combined implied probabilities of every possible market outcome exceed 100%.

Can bookmaker margin be calculated from one price?

No. Every possible outcome in the same market must be included before the complete overround can be calculated.

What are no-vig probabilities?

They are probabilities produced by proportionally normalising the complete set of implied probabilities so that they total 100%.

What are fair odds?

Fair odds are decimal prices calculated from the estimated no-vig probabilities after the displayed market overround has been proportionally removed.

Does a lower bookmaker margin guarantee a better bet?

No. A lower margin may indicate more competitive overall pricing, but it does not predict the sporting result or prove that an individual selection offers value.

Why does the margin calculator show an underround?

An underround appears when the combined implied probability is below 100%. This may result from unusually favourable prices, incorrect data or one or more missing market outcomes.

Which odds formats does the converter support?

The converter supports decimal, fractional and American odds and can automatically recognise common input formats.

Are these betting tools free?
